Nothing Like a Home-Made Dress

Both of these dress I made when I was 16, (for a high school fashion show - each took about 7 hours). They both fit me when I was 16. So I think it's both a fabulously amazing and utterly depressing fact that I still fit both. Although I couldn't get into either of them last year, so maybe I'll see it as a good thing. Anyways, I LOVE the pink/white dotty dress sooo much and was always sad I wouldn't be able to wear it again. But I can!! I must get boyfriend to go out somewhere fancy with me soon before the weather turns too cold to wear a white strapless dress.

Today Was Kind of a Packing Day

Finally made it over to my old apartment on Haro, oh pretty spring time on Haro St, I will miss you, but then got distracted with lots of clothes I haven't seen in weeks. And ran around my apartment taking pictures. The ruffly black dress is a vintage find, I'm gonna go with 80s.

First pic up: Flash! I decided to being back my beginner days on blogger when I didn't realize my camera had a timer on it and thought every picture I ever took of myself was going to have to be done with the help of a mirror.

Saturday night was a big night for Tommy and I and about 200 other people. A wedding reception! I stupidly forgot to take pictures of Tommy and my outfits, we both glammed it up, but I did do some paparazzi-ing! Anyone recognize the man holding all the purses? ...Is that Karl??

I've been lusting after Michael Kors' hot pink fur coat, (F/W 09), and thinking how on earth will I ever come up with the $5000 to make it mine?? When I realized I already own a sweater similar to it. I got this sweater about 3 years ago at a vintage shop on Main St, and wore it to school the next day. Nobody was wearing anything like it - this was the time of tight flared jeans, hideous printed hoodies, those awful yoga pants and lots of Uggs - but I thought, I love it so I don't care. It sheds like crazy, but no more than the now ever-so-popular purse dog, so I can handle it.

Dressing Up for Winter

Im supposed to be packing up my apartment right now, transferring all my stuff from my old apt to the beautiful new, (actually it's 100 years old), one! But I procrastinated instead. I figured I haven't done a post in ages, so I should invest part of my day in doing that. Winter here I come!

The 2nd picture is a mash of everything I love, pink fur, pink sequins, high high heels and plaid. All in one. I don't actually plan on wearing this out.

P.S. Notice anything different? I took the plunge last week to really get ready for fall, and dyed my hair dark brown! Kinda scary, kinda wonderful. I'm learning to love it.

Accessorizing

Partly because I am sometimes absent-minded, and partly because I get lazy when I get home, my jewelry is everywhere; a ring on the bathroom counter, a necklace on top of the fridge, bracelets on the bed side table.

I used to think I should learn to be tidier, but I now think that this behavior is brilliant as it allows me to pop on a piece of jewelry that maybe isn't the perfect match, or I wouldn't have thought to pair with a particular ensemble.

Ex: Slipped on a huge cocktail ring this morning while brushing my teeth. I was wearing an oversized white T and skinny jeans. By breakfast I was thinking, "this glam ring is just right with these favourite, worn in pieces".

Style Instinct

I remember reading a quote from Agyness Deyn that said something like, wear the outfit that you first put on because those are the pieces that you want to wear, and don't second guess yourself. (While I totally agree with this, I can't say this is always what I've done; once I imagined how great it would look to wear this new wide belt I had just bought over a cream, winter wool coat, (I was trying to channel my inner Patricia Field for SJP), I looked in the mirror and saw a belted twinkie. It was awful.) But the gist of Aggy's idea is brilliant, wear what you love and what suits your mood and go with it. Once you walk out the door, leave all self doubt behind.

Silhouette

When dressing I always try to stay away from wearing top and bottoms that are of the same silhouette. I think it's much more flattering to wear 1 thing fitted, 1 thing loose, when talking casual wear. (Obviously work attire is different because both top and bottoms should be appropriately fitted, as in not tight, and not sloppy).

If you're having a "fat day" a men's style button down is a dream, especially when paired with a tight-ish skirt, or fitted jeans, the look is stylish and comfortable as you're not pulling your shirt down all day because you're worried the jeans might create the "love-handle" effect.

I was asked lately about my personal style, and it got me thinking, so I thought I'd share. Happy styling!

London College of Fashion

For years now I have dreamed of attending the London College of Fashion in England. It's a very expensive dream, but I still hope to one day make it happen. In the mean time I visit the school's site every now and then to check out the current students' work, and a blog called Pigeons and Peacocks, which is produced by the students, (Pigeons and Peacocks is also a magazine-one of my very favourites, but only produced and distributed in London).

I came across the work of a student, Emma Gibney, that I quite liked, especially her portfolio of street style photography.

A StyleStruck Winter: Capes!!

Sitting on the couch, staring out the window at the most beautiful view; the coal harbour marina with the stunning north shore mountains and blue sky as the back drop. And yet I do not want to go outside. If I do I will have to give in to the sun and take off my precious wool cape and maybe even put on sandals. Can't we pack those away already?

However, yesteday I did venture out into the sun to have lunch with a girlfriend and a visit to Woo Vintage in Gastown. And thank goodness I did because LOOK WHAT I FOUND!! Oh my goodness I am in looove with this reversible red cape. It's dutch, well made in Holland anyways, and it's so cozy and fun, I can't wait to layer scarves over this, with knee high black leather boots. I'm wearing it with leopard print Manolo Blahniks at top, and below with Marc by Marc Jacobs patent leather heels and my vintage rabbit fur stole-turned-muff. Bottom: a navy wool cape I've had for about a decade, but never really loved until a few years ago, it needs a bright red scarf and maybe a beret. These things will come.

Boots!!

I've been wanting caramel coloured leather boots for ages and ages!! And finally I found some! Except that they aren't leather, they're a synthetic look-a-like and the price tag was only $39.99, (found at a trendy mall store near you). I'm thinking they'll be perfect for fall running around when it's raining, I don't have to worry about ruining leather! I'm wearing a bathrobe because I just woke up, I couldn't wait to show the boots!

A Few of My Favourite Things Right Now

Top: A rolling rack in what Tommy refers to as "the fashion room" in our apartment. It's the room where I get to put all the girlie things, all my clothes and shoes and pink and sparkles and glitter and feathers... It's a very happy place for me.

Our mornings, get on our computers and check the latest tweets, posts, what's in the news feed, etc. I thought this morning was particularly cute and felt compelled to share. (Those mid-night blue toes are evidence of my pedi yesterday! Loving the colour, especially when worn with borrowed, over-sized PJs).

StyleStruck bakes!! From scratch. No help from Betty Crocker for this fashionista. This is my Crumb Cake, sooo yummy and perfect with tea for breakfast. I am so very domesticated.

Girl's Day! Today started with a lovely little browse around H&M while I waited for my girlfriends to meet me for Bellinis. I ended up with a $6.95 purchase-a fab over-sized white V-neck tee. Aannndd I tried on some cute faux-fur coats, but I couldn't decide, and I don't really know if I need more fur coats, especially when they're faux fur when I already own a couple vintage fur coats. But anyhow, I snapped some pics in the dressing room of the coats to show you all how they look. I think I might pass, although I really do like the grey/black one. Last is a pic of two of my girls and I getting pedis on Davie St. Definately a lovely girlie day.

My September Issues Review, so far

So far I have only picked four of the available September Issues: Flare, Harper's Bazaar, Vogue and Elle. I am trying to restrain myself by not buying them all at once.

FLARE: I was soo impressed with Flare this month!! Lisa Tant has really outdone herself. From having Daria on the cover, to using Kate Bock in a fabulous fashion spread to the relevant articles and intense use of Canadian designers and realistic price points, Flare really delivered a useful fashion tool. There are several items I will be scouting for thanks to Flare. And I will be keeping this issue, not tossing it as I suspect I will be doing to Elle-music to Tommy's ears, (I own stacks and stacks of magazines from past years-"one day they'll be vintage!!").

HARPER'S BAZAAR: When I saw Leighton Meester on the cover I was thrilled!! But then disappointed by the very 'bazaar' aging spread they did of her. Where did that idea come from and why wasn't it nixed? It was weird and a very short piece about the cover star, maybe an actual fashion spread with Leighton and a full article would have been better? Just a thought.... However, I was soo excited about Aggy playing Michael Jackson in the "Thriller Fashion" spread, shot by Terry Richardson. Also, loved the "Proud to Shop" bit, the pictures were beautiful, and while I can't afford to shop like they think I should, I did find the piece relevant and the photos were beautiful.

VOGUE: Question: Why put Charlize on the cover? I get that Vogue thinks she is the ultimate "movie star", but haven't we seen Charlize on many, many covers already? Maybe it's just me, but I think that the September issue needs to showcase something new and be a real trendsetting magazine and therefore putting a NEW star on the cover would've been a better idea. Or maybe even a MODEL. Especially since the Supermodel era is back, why not put Naomi, Linda or Cindy on the cover? Or maybe all together like back in the day... Anyways, I did enjoy the escape Vogue provided me, they always provide fantastical fashion spreads and articles-particularly the article and photos showcasing Gela Nash-Taylor's beautiful English country side home-I'm sure we all dream of owning that one day.

ELLE: WHAT THE HECK DID THEY PUT JENNIFER ANNISTON ON THE COVER FOR?! I mean COME ON. Have we not heard enough about sad J. Anniston?? I used to be on team Anniston, now due to J's seemingly "I lost my only true love to Ang" persona, I am fully on team Brangelina. I'm tired of reading about her, tired of seeing her in/on magazines. I know that's harsh but her story is over, it was past over back when she was on Oprah. I don't particularly care about what she has to say, partly because I find her to be dull and boring...... I haven't even read the issue yet, something about seeing that terrible picture of her on the cover, (couldnt they have at least made her look fabulous?!), makes me not want to even open the magazine. Why did I buy it? Because I wanted to give Elle, a magazine I usually love, a chance. One of my fellow twitterers says that the magazine is full of big prices and unrealistic fashion this month.... Ohhh Elle, try again next month. Better luck then hopefully?

Lovely Monday Shopping

This past Monday I had a day off, (which are rather rare these days), and so I did a big loop around Vancouver running errands and hunting cheapie shopping destinations. And I found them! I had been on the hunt for a few things and I found two!!: lace gloves and a fur stole.

I bought 3 pairs of lace gloves from Dressew, (ONLY $1.99!); 1 dainty pair with bows, 1 plain lace pair and another plain pair that I plan to cut the fingers off of... if only I could figure out where Boyfriend put the scissors...

The rabbit fur stole was a steal at $30!! And in mint condition I couldn't believe it! I got it at Woo Vintage on Cambie in Gastown. That store has amazing vintage, they had a Shiaparelli fur hat!! Sadly, it didn't fit. I'm wondering if I should turn this stole into a muff??

My first time golfing!

I always thought that golf was a boring game and that it took forever to play, (4 hours for one game!), but it turns out I really like it. It's a competition with yourself to play better each time, and soo much harder than it looks. Despite this, I did have a few good hits and maybe even a great one, Boyfriend was impressed. We played at Capilano Golf Club, which has to be one of the most beautiful courses in Canada if not North America. It's just gorgeous out there, with a view of downtown Vancouver.

And you know what's fun about golf?? You HAVE to wear pretty golf clothes, so I had to go shopping. The downside is that I found out you have to be really super conservative, and can't wear anything bedazzled. But in the end I really liked my collared pink tee-shirt and stripey capris-I felt very 1950s. And at the 11th hole there's a little stand where it's practically tradition to order a hot dog and have a beer-it's official: I love golf.

Winter 2009

Here is what I want to look like this winter: I can not wait for Winter!!! Tights and boots and chunky knit sweaters and capes and muffs and ear muffs, (hopefully from Burberry), and mittens and scarves and wool... I can't wait to get bundled and drink white chocolate hot choc. Yumm.

Now I don't usually love Baby Phat, for the most part I'm not "gangsta" enough to pull off the high tops, bedazzled jeans and cropped jackets, but ohmygoodness I am loving some of the shoes from the Fall line!! Like these black shoe/booties above, soo cute! And there is a pair of over the knee colourful leopard print boots I am dying for. Saw them in an ad in a new mag, they're very 90s street walker, (Pretty Woman-esque), in just the right way. Can't find them on the internet, will keep searching. I've been so bad about blogging lately! I've been working like a mad woman. Also, I'm in the midst of moving residences, movin' on up! To the most beautiful apartment, so I have really been a very busy girl. Add to this baking, with no help from Betty Crocker, and I'm fully booked.

Tonight will be the first date-night Boyfriend and I have had in awhile, (due to me and my double shifts at the restaurant), so I will post the date outfit! At the moment I'm feeling my nude Stuart Weitzman 5" heels, no idea about the rest though. Maybe some snake print..... or sequins! I need more sparkles in my life lately. All good outfits start with the shoes though!

Cooking at Home

I've been sick for the past 4 days, finally ready to get back into the world tomorrow! So tonight I was feeling a little down for being home cooking for myself, so I put on some fabulous shoes, and a little Frank Sinatra/Sia/Adele and suddenly my mood changed. I know these are empty pots, but I was boiling the water. Swear. I made a very gourmet meal of pasta and alfredo sauce, and with celery and peanut butter as my appetizer. And Oreos. Double-stuffed.

Just admiring my feet the other night as I sat and waited for a girlfriend. These shoes have become my trusty party shoes, the 5 inch heel is actually comfortable and I adore painting my nails all different high-lighter colours to contrast with the grey. I painted my nails neon orange specifically for these shoes when I first got them. That's love.

Feeling a Little Proud

I've made it my mission over the past few days to clean out my closets. I decided to do this when I came across clothing from my early years in high school. So far I've got two bags full, ready to go. Some of the things I'm getting rid of I can't believe I ever wore, how were those Pochahauntus style moccasin fur boots with the fur pom poms ever considered stylish???

However, there were a number of things I bought years ago that made me proud of my younger self, such as these gold and snakeskin sling back heels I bought for my graduation ceremony. I still adore snakeskin, in the background my prized vintage Pierre Cardin clutch.

Doing a little Granville St shopping last week and wandered into USED, (amazing vintage store just off of Robson). Did the necessary 80s dresses-try-on and then spotted these gorgeous white leather booties! Almost brand new, a bit big, but a fashionista will sacrifice. And they came with a very happy vintage price-tag, a.k.a. very affordable - $24!

A Stephen Sprouse/Debbie Harry Combo

Debbie Harry has long been a favourite of mine. It's something about her quirky sense of style, how bold she is and how genuinely her personality shines through to the exterior. You can imagine how excited I was when I found a copy of her Rockbird album last spring at a record shop. The cover art is gorgeous, I have it on my wall, and it only cost 99 cents. One of my best purchases. Then this past fall I was searching through a little record shop on Hastings and found Harry's album for her single "French Kissin" with the same cover art in different colours.

So then the other day I'm on style.com looking through the beauty icons bit (click here to see what I'm talking about) and see an article about Stephen Sprouse designing Debbie Harry's album cover, as well as clothes for her! Yayy I own a piece of Stephen Sprouse-designed art!

Sometimes when I have a day off, I will go to Chapters, the one on Howe and Robson, and sit in the magazine section and browse through five or six or seven magazines to make sure I buy the one, or two, that have the best fashion editorials.

The other day the magazine that caught my eye was French VOGUE. Nevermind that I don't know a word of french, other than 'un petit peu' for how much milk and sugar I take in my coffee-learned that one in France, and other random words I've picked up from books and what not. Certainly not enough to make sense of a full article, but I reasoned that my $12 was well spent on a foreign magazine because the fashions would be incredible. I've only just flipped through the first few pages, but I was right! I'll be lost in the world of VOGUE for the next hour or so....

Frosty make up is baack! Hopefully minus the baby blue eye shadow though this time round. Do it with a brown smoky eye, that'd be gorgeous. I'm really enjoying Smashbox's pink lip gloss called Pout that makes your lips a pretty light pink, then layered with sparkly pink Chanel gloss, or maybe over a Barbie pink lip liner. Sephora carries one as part of their Sephora line that is perfect. And if you want to try the look for a little less, try Wet 'N Wild #525D. Just don't try and kiss your boyfriend after you put it on...

It was one of the most poignant and emotionally fraught haute couture shows ever: a collection produced on a shoestring at the last minute, and only made possible by the collective will and donated time and skills of the seamstresses, embroiderers, jewelers, milliners, and shoemakers loyal to Christian Lacroix. As the whole world knows, his future is in limbo after his former owners put the Lacroix business into administration and laid off all but 12 workers—an unclear and messy situation that leaves one of the greatest creators of the genre out on his own. Only the models were paid—€50 each, according to French law — but they too ended up in tears. "I didn't want to cry," said Lacroix, amid a standing ovation and a tumult of support from clients. "I want to continue, maybe in a different way, with a small atelier. What I really care about is the women who do this work." If the collection was a pitch to new backers, it was one that showed Lacroix at his most restrained and approachable. Without access to the oodles of extravagantly hued and embellished materials he has lavished on his couture fantasias since 1987, he pared it back to mainly black and midnight blue, concentrating on shape and wearability. Little caped coats and coat-dresses, short and flirty bell-shaped skirts, peplum jackets, and bunchy taffeta party dresses all brought rapturous applause from a packed room of friends and clients. Fantasia it wasn't, and couldn't be. Yet no financial constraints can detract from Lacroix's mastery of his art: Witness the simplicity of a floor-length navy one-shouldered dress swooping into an asymmetrically curved back with a satin bow nestled into one side. Then there was the extraordinary wedding dress, an eau de nil satin gown with a gilded headdress, a vision evoking an image of a saint in a devotional church painting. As the designer came out to lead the bride in the finale, the whole audience stood to honor him.

80s Fashion

I'm quite pleased that the 80s are back with such a vengeance. All the glamour, the extravagance of the 80s silhouette is something we neeeed to have back. Like the big shoulders, and big hair, and big make-up, (Well maybe we can do without the blue eye shadow-red lips combo). Ooooh and the fabulous matching leather clutch and shoes, that was a staple then. I adore how 80s fashion was really about the fabrics. Ever look into your Mother's closet and pull out the silk dresses or beautiful wool suits? I did, and I fell in love with them.

I'd like to see a return to the gorgeous woven fabrics, anything other than all the stretchy knits that clothe all us westerners, (ask anyone, I will NOT wear yoga-wear as clothing, a.k.a. Lululemon. Those are work out clothes, not street clothes in my opinion. Why not a beautiful cotton sundress to be comfortable in??).

Anyways, my favourite movie is "Working Girl" starring Melanie Griffith and Harrison Ford, and so I'd like to show the trailer for the movie, check out the black sparkly evening dress she wears at about the half-way point! So cute.

Which is a shame as I do "rugby thug chic" so well. I have to say, Branden's party of people was dressed very nicely. Wasn't it Coco Chanel who said it's always better to be overly dressed up rather than dressed boringly? Or something like that...

This is my first fashion complaint here.

I follow "SeptemberIssue" on Twitter, who tweets all about The September Issue, the film about the making of Vogue's September issue, (coming out in Sept!). Anyways, SeptemberIssue posted "what would you ask Anna Wintour?" I replied that I'd like to know what her greatest fashion pet peeve is, and that got me thinking, what's MY greatest fashion pet peeve. I didn't even have to think about it though, because I know what I hate: LEGGINGS.

Sure they look great on some people, but I still don't like them. Maybe with uggs and a big T on a cozy type of day, but other wise, I just want to shred them all. Especially when worn with a fancy dress, or tunic, or worse, a top, as evening wear! Noooo! Leggings are Not pants! (If you know me, and wear leggings, I promise not to hate in person against your leggings. I'll just think it, because that's what friends are for).

Yesterday I was on a mission to get a birthday present for one of Tommy's, (boyfriend), best friend's girlfriend's birthday. I headed straight to The Cross, a gorgeous home store in Yaletown, on Richards. That store is incredible, there are reasonable prices and the staff is super nice, and the styling of the store is just incredible! If you need any inspiration for decorating, I say head there. I can't say what I bought until post-birthday party of course. But I did find some beautiful gifts, (and they gift-wrapped them gorgeously), and so boyfriend was very happy with me. So he took me for a Purdy's ice cream.

Then I met up with twin sister, (Monika), for lunch while she was on her break from Holts. A fellow employee of hers from the men's department ate next to us and left us some very valuable relationship advice:

"If you ask your guy to do something for you, and he doesn't want to do it, you tell him 'I'm worth it!' "- Mark from Menswear. I think Mark may be a tad biased since he's a Dad to two girls. Cute though.

Z!NK Magazine Featuring WV's Kate Bock

Browsing the magazine section at London Drugs and who do I spot?! West Vancouver's own Kate Bock on the cover of Z!NK magazine! (I graduated from WVSS with Kate, hence being so excited to see her face on the cover) Z!INK is a fabulous Canadian mag that does incredible and very well-styled, (in my opinion), fashion spreads. And not just two or three like the typical magazine, but more like 8 or 9, so there's something for everyone. Kate's spread featured swimwear, and she looked gorgeous. The pictures featured were my favourite, very glamorous.

The last picture I had to include because the model is wearing my Miu Miu sparkly pumps!! I feel very fabulous right now.

Main St Windows!

The other day I ventured over to Main St. to check out the window displays of Front and Company. This store always has the most amazing windows, a few months ago there were these stacks of old, pretty tea cups surrounding the mannequins! So creative. The owner of the store is also an artist, which explains the amazing concepts she comes up with for the displays. I adore the mannequin with the brown/olive coloured dress with the feathers. (Sorry about the reflections in the windows, it was a sunny day, what's a girl to do?)

Then I walked on down Main St. and came across this cute little store selling stationery called "The Regional Assembly of Text". Their windows were done up with vintage type-writers with pretty ribbons as the ribbon paper. Much better and prettier than the average window, I would say.

My DIY

My first year out of high school was spent at Kwantlen, doing my first year of their Design and Technology degree program. Sadly, after that first year I realized that it just wasn't for me, but I did get the opportunity to create a lot of my own designs, turn them into patterns and then out together the actual garment. And so I have these clothes lying around that I've made, and some of them aren't exactly my style, so I did a little fixing, using my favourite vintage cut offs as a bit of a length-determiner.

For this particular garment I created, (high waisted denim trousers), we had to also make a mock version, and so I did my mock in leopard print, (why the heck not, right?). At the time they were very outlandish, but I'm soo glad I chose leopard because now they're hot high waisted shorts! I also chopped the denim pair, and wore them out that day!

Except for that I got a little scissor happy and cut them too short so you can see my bum, but I came up with a very exciting way to fix this: a ruffle at the back. I know, sounds odd, but just trust me, it'll look great and I'll post a picture when they're finished.

Sisterly Advice

Yesterday I'm sitting at home trying to figure out just what to do with the mountain of magazines in my apartment when my phone rang, my sister needed advice: To buy or pass on the $500 Stella McCartney Pre-Fall leopard cashmere sweater? ($500 after her 50% off Holts discount)

Monika is planning a trip to Sweden in August, with ticket already purchased, so she's been saving like a mad woman, which is why this was such a dilemma. She told me everyone else she had already asked had said it would be ridiculous to spend such a big amount when a trip is around the corner, and that she was calling me because she knew I'd tell her to go for it. Hahaha.

After discussing the pros and cons of buying the sweater vs. not buying it, we came to a conclusion: She'd be utterly gutted come fall and no leopard sweater to wear.

A Sequin Shoe Occasion

Last night Boyfriend took me to the Cannery at the Port of Vancouver for a lovely date-night dinner. It was by far the most beautiful restaurant I have ever been to, it's shabby chic with white linen table cloths and pieces of drift wood on the walls.

What to wear to date-night dinner? I chose:

H&M black leather high waisted skirt, (while it looked fabulous, I have now learned that leather is not what you want to wear when going out for a big dinner. Something with an elastic waistband would have been more appropriate, as I may or may not have had to undo the back zipper an inch... that darn bread and lobster butter was just too good!)

An ANNA WINTOUR FILM!

Ever since I saw the 60 minutes interview with Anna Wintour, and read Front Row, I have been dying to get a better look into what it's like to be her. I would say she is one of the most influential people of our time, considering that she is the most powerful women of the 300 billion dollar global fashion industry. Her words dictate success and failure, and she is a force to be reckoned with. You can imagine how EXCITED I was to see that there is a film coming out about her!! It's called The September Issue - Anna Wintour and the Making of Vogue, by R.J. Cutler.

And obviously it'll be out sometime in September, fingers crossed it comes out in Vancouver, otherwise I'll be trekking it, (in high heels of course), to the USA to see it.

Just like with the Sex and the City movie, I'm very interested to see what the stylistas will be wearing to such a film!

Every time I walk down Robson St, over to Blockbuster, I check out this gorgeous shower curtain in the window of a linen store. And every time I think to myself, I don't need that, I can make do with my white Walmart shower curtain, even though I hate my Walmart shower curtain, since I'm trying to save up. So anyways yesterday Boyfriend and I walked past this store and I mentioned how I looove it, but maybe it's a little bit too much, so I don't buy it. So Boyfriend goes into the store and buys it! And here it is in my bathroom, isn't it the most beautiful shower curtain??

One day it may be a new rain coat.... okay just kidding, but I can dream.

Beautiful Editorial

So I've realized lately I can't shut up about everything fashion related, (this is probably because Boyfriend tells me this, nicely, of course). There's just sooo much going on, like my most recent editorial obsession with Lily Donaldson, shot by Terry Richardson in the July issue of VOGUE. (I would have posted this earlier I'm sure had I owned this issue earlier. I was trying very hard to say no to myself when the urge came to buy more magazines as Boyfriend and I are planning on an NYC trip later this summer, but then he went and bought it, such a nice man.

I know I neeeed to get a better camera, NYC first, camera second. (Top picture: you can see my high school sweat pants with the red lettering, I promise I ONLY wear these at home).

I have plans to spray paint cork boards hot hot highlighter pink and put them on my wall, (about 4 of them) and display all my favourite magazine art there. I'll post a picture when I get around to actually doing this.

Stylish Window Displays

Went down to Holts to check out the blogger windows, and they're fantastic! I was a little disappointed though that the Bryan Boy window and Garance Dore window were both still unfinished, or maybe being re-touched, (the curtains were down). Yet another excuse to visit Holt Renfrew again! I took some pictures, sadly I realized after that day time is the wrong time to take pictures when glass is involved, you can see me and everything else reflected. Hmph, Fashion is Not Frivolous

So this is my first post where I'm feeling less than happy. Why is it that so many people see fashion, (the purchasing of shoes, clothes, accessories, etc) as a waste of time and money? Because they don't understand the passion behind it. Clothes are art for the body, what you wear expresses who you are. Shoes, in my opinion are more of an art form than say some odd sculpture, they transform your mood, your stature and your look. (And they act as art, well mine do, sitting atop shelves, tables, and sometimes the fridge-I want to see the sparkly Miu Mius every minute!).

I'm writing this because yesterday a girl at work heard how I love shoes, and that I have a lot of them, (I haven't got a figure for you, as I have never counted how many pairs I own. One day I will.) and she wanted to talk to me about how wasteful that is, and that you really only need a few good pairs. I would die if I had to choose between a few pairs, as would every other fashionista I'm sure.

I'd like to thank Carrie Bradshaw for making it more acceptable to be proud of being a shoe-addict.

I'm done now, and off to Holts, I hear they have Blogger-inspired windows!!

It seems trivial to think of fashion at a time like this, but Michael really was a trendsetter, he marched to the beat of his own drum. I can't believe I did this.... They're finally mine!! Lucky lucky me I found these crazy expensive Miu Miu shoes on sale! Although they were still an investment, I consider them art, and everyone spends lots of money on beautiful art, right? (Thinking that makes me feel okay about it, thank goodness I have wonderful girlfriends who applaud my shoe investments).

But what I didn't think of is where does one wear shoes like these? Certainly not to a club, and not casually, maybe they're date wear? Or maybe I'll just wear them everyday, all day and live happily ever after in my pink sparkly shoes...

I'm going to come up with an outfit for these and post it soon, stay tuned... or maybe some suggestions for outfits??

Sunday Morning on Main St

There is nothing like hopping around Main St. on a sunny Sunday morning, (which is more like 11-3am, because who gets up earlier than 10 on a Sunday?). Today was the day of the Recessionista Shopping Event at Heritage Hall on Main, which I have been looking forward to for weeks! A room packed with local designers selling their items for $25 and under, obviously I'm so there. And all who went got a gift bag with a free yoga session coupon, and 3 free tanning coupons, (hello instant beach body!). I got an amazing "gold" coral ring that has "diamonds" set into the coral, fake, obviously, but gorgeous all the same.

After Heritage Hall we visited some of the vintage shops, like Bohemia Gallery. This place has to be one of my favourite vintage shops, there's such quirky stuff to look at, and somehow I always find a real gem, like the white and black Italian leather purse that is printed to look like croc, soo excited to wear this! So we're browsing around and the owner of the shop tells she just "got a new designer upstairs!" And how she "loves her new designer!" I'd like to have my own designer upstairs too, some people have all the luck. Anyways, good thing we heard about the upstairs because there was heaps more vintage! I found a fabulous sequin bolero, black with gold tiger stripes. I plan to wear it for day, I think sequins make everyday an occasion, why hide them at night? In the sun they shine like mad and it's just fabulous.

Check out the "new designer's" loft where she sells her work, called ODP Designs. The collection is created with old clothes made new by re-designing the shapes, cutting up, adding buttons, straps and everything else. Amazing loft she's got there.

These are my glass slippers. Beautiful shoes that are annoyingly fragile. I remember seeing them in Chanel's denim/USA collection, and then I went to NYC, and there was a sale... and now they live in my shoe closet. They've already been repaired once, and now they're retired until another very special occasion. The heel looks inspired by the Empire State building, utterly fabulous.

Now if only I could get my hands on the matching belt...

Top: my desk at the moment. This is what I call a beautiful mess.

Boyfriend says magazines are a dying art, that it'll all be digital soon. This horrifies me, one of my greatest pleasures is to sit down with a beautifully put together and well-written magazine. There is something about fantastic art direction that makes me want to read and re-read a magazine from cover to cover. My opinion is that the best magazines are British, with the exception of US Vogue. This UK Vogue (featured on top with Natalia Vodianova) is incredible, I got mine at Chapters on Robson/Howe. They have a little Starbucks attached where, if you sit outside, the best people/fashionista watching is.

RDS Block Party - June 13

I can't skate to save my life, but I think it's pretty great to watch, so I went with a couple girlfriends over to the RDS Block Party on Lonsdale Ave yesterday to catch some rays and check out the skills of the local skaters. Ishara and Style Spy Media Inc. put on a Girls' Night of exclusive shopping and great discounts, (and cupcakes!), Friday evening , to promote Ishara, a fabulous women's store in Oakridge Centre. Date night at Vancouver Club wearing Forever 21 chiffon blouse, Zara snakeskin printed skirt and Zara yellow snakeskin heels. Zara must be commended on their amazing ability to create the most spectacular shoes. Boyfriend loved the skirt, another thank you to Zara!

It has become apparent that my entire apartment (all 700sqft) has turned into a closet. It's quite convenient really, I wasn't sure what to wear, so I went to the kitchen for an apple and came out dressed, (fabulous blue suede heels sitting on kitchen floor and favourite vintage bag sitting on the stove-it wasn't on, thank god). Next time I'll venture into the living room and see what I come out with...
